Forget about plunging necklines. What new fashion trend is making stars shine with their buttocks

Why the new trend is making celebrities forget about plunging necklines

The 39-year-old singer Katy Perry was recently photographed at the Billboard Women in Music Awards in an unusual look. The singer appeared on the red carpet with her rear end exposed: a daring slit was visible in the middle of her latex skirt.

This is not the first time that stars have chosen to show off their backside rather than a deep neckline. According to the New York Magazine article The Cut, this is a new trend among celebrities that is rapidly gaining momentum. "Celebrities are looking for a fresh take on provocative clothing, and that's how the deliberate display of the gluteal cleft came about," writes reporter Emily Kirkpatrick.

Body language expert Judy James believes that the trend has a hidden meaning. "This is a completely new move that actually contributes to a high level of sexual appeal. Although celebrities have been trying to express their sexuality through their breasts and cleavage for several years, it's now fashionable to advertise the butt, just like actresses did in the fifties and sixties," she notes.

According to the International Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, approximately 400 thousand people had buttock augmentation surgery in 2020. This figure is a 19.3 percent increase over 2016, with fuller bottoms and curvier figures becoming an increasingly popular choice.

Meanwhile, plastic surgeon and director of CREO CLINIC, Dr. Omar Tillo, says he's seeing a shift in beauty standards. "I've noticed a trend of patients wanting to improve their buttocks rather than focusing on breast augmentation alone," he explains.

The expert adds: "The development of social media and celebrity culture has increased the visibility of curvy figures, influencing people's perceptions of the ideal body." Icons such as Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor were famous for their shapes and were not afraid to show them off. Now, it seems, celebrities are going back to their roots by doing the same.
