Charles III breaks royal traditions with an informal photo, baffling his subjects

It is quite common among the British to send greeting cards to members of the royal family. Every letter is sure to be answered. But recently, an ardent supporter of the royal family received a rather informal thank you. Charles III wrote on his own behalf and attached an interesting photo.

On November 14, King Charles III celebrated his 75th birthday. One ardent fan sent congratulations and received a custom thank-you note in response. He shared the photo on his blog. The envelope looked standard: white with an embossed coat of arms and a postmark.

There was photo of the king and a printed thank-you note inside, "I am eternally grateful to you for thinking of me on my 75th birthday and sending me such a touching message. I send you my warmest good wishes." The photograph depicted Charles III, not in a traditional portrait format, but in a joyful mood, not expecting be be photographed.

"Interestingly, King Charles did not choose the coronation photo for his birthday card. The photo is taken from the Scottish National Thanksgiving Service during the dedication at St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh, Scotland. The photo was taken on July 5, 2023 by Chris Jackson," the fan explained.

This is not the only difference from the standardized style of thank-you cards. The King wrote in his own name, i.e. in the first person. All earlier replies were always in the third person (Prince of Wales). Otherwise, the letter was standard.

In particular, there was no longer any informality on the Christmas card. The photo shows King Charles III and Queen Camilla in ceremonial regalia and robes.
