The legendary actress Anouk Aimée has passed away

French film legend Anouk Aimée has died at the age of 92. During her career, the actress starred in 70 films and became a star of European art house. The most famous works of the Frenchwoman are Lola by Jacques Demy and 8½ by Federico Fellini.

Anouk's death was announced by her daughter, actress Manouella Papatakis, on Instagram: "Together with my daughter Galaad and my granddaughter Mila, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of my mother Anouk Aimée. I was by her side when she died this morning at her home in Paris."

The femme fatale, as she was called, was born in the French capital in 1932. Aimée's real name was Françoise Dreyfus, which she changed after landing her first role as Anouk in the movie House Under Water. Reportedly, screenwriter Jacques Prevert suggested the name Aimée, which means "beloved" in French.

The actress's image made her a favorite of European art house directors and led to starring roles in a series of masterpieces, including Jacques Demy's Lola, La Dolce Vita, and Federico Fellini's 8½. Her latest film was released in 2012.
