An activist wearing a "Free Ukraine" T-shirt ran into The Weeknd during a concert

During the concert of The Weeknd in Melbourne, Australia, an activist named Johnson Wen, wearing a T-shirt with the flag of Ukraine, ran on stage. He hugged the artist, and the latter, in turn, did not push him away, but tried to protect him from security for a while.

At first, the young man managed to escape the security to climb onto the 1.5-meter-high stage and run as fast as he could to the performer. But later, he was taken out of the venue in a somewhat aggressive manner so as not to disrupt the concert. The video of the incident went viral on social media, and several videos from different angles were posted on Instagram by Johnson Wen.

The activist's red suit clearly shows the flag of Ukraine and the inscription "Free Ukraine". Probably, the guy's goal was to draw the attention of Australia, a continent geographically far from Ukraine, to the war. Given that The Weeknd has a large fan base, his concert could have been one of the most important venues for the demonstration.

The video shows that at first the artist distanced the activist from the guards, who ran up to take the "offender" away. At the same time, Johnson Wen managed to hug the singer. A few seconds later, The Weeknd moved away from the young man and handed him over to the guards.

After the public outcry online, the singer could not remain silent and commented on the situation and reported on the concert on his social media.

"Melbourne, part 1. You helped us open the gates for this leg. It took a long time, but I felt at home. I felt your hugs (literally)," The Weeknd hinted.

On his Instagram, Johnson Wen posts similar activist "flights". At the final of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, he also broke the rules and ran onto the court. However, at that time, his T-shirt had not only the flag of Ukraine, but also of Palestine.

Earlier, OBOZ.UA wrote that the network was touched by the performance of a little Ukrainian girl at a rally in the United States. The girl sang the song Zombie in support of her homeland, and society drew a parallel with the war.
