Actress Vitovska condemned Farion and supported Russian-speaking soldiers: they have no time to sit with textbooks

Ukrainian theater and film actress Irma Vitovska criticized the views of linguist Irina Farion regarding the Russian-speaking military. She believes that soldiers have a more crucial task – to defend the country, rather than sitting down to read textbooks. They will begin speaking Ukrainian upon their return home.

The actress holds the view that language primarily concerns the home front. After achieving victory, the military will have the opportunity to assimilate with Ukrainians. Vitovska shared her opinion during an interview with Alina Dorotiuk on her project "For the Time Being."

According to the celebrity, the soldiers themselves would love to return to a Ukrainian-speaking country: "When we talked to the military, everyone I interviewed and know is in favor of returning to the Ukrainian-speaking space. Therefore, the language is a matter of the home front: to quickly make the country our military is fighting for."

The opposite cannot be true. When civilians are asked about speaking, they point the finger at the military because they speak Russian. This is just an excuse, Vitovska believes.

"I disagree with Farion's position. The military is fighting for Ukraine, and they have no time to sit down with their textbooks at this time," the actress says.

"The issue of language is very acute today. After all, it is primarily about self-identification. For Irma Vitovska, it is a matter of security: "You know my position: language is security. Russian is offensive to us, we do not feel at home. Yes, we would like to go through Ukrainianization faster, but look at the resistance of the east and south, who said they were Ukrainians despite speaking Russian. They have not yet gone through the process of Ukrainianization, but they are on their way."

The actress believes that one of the reasons for the full-scale invasion is the language because the Russians understood well that "Ukrainian identity has begun to grow here," and therefore quickly intervened in the process.

Earlier, OBOZ.UA wrote that more and more people are trying to communicate in Ukrainian in public spaces. Among them is guitarist Diesel from the rock band Green Grey.
