15 years ago, her sweary hit was sung by millions, but she left the stage for the sake of personal happiness and children: how Lily Allen lives now

The other day, the news spread that English singer Lily Allen earns more money from selling photos of her legs on the OnlyFans platform than she does from listening to her songs. She has more than 8 million listeners a month on the Spotify streaming service, but her hit with a swear word is the most memorable in the world. Lily Allen began her career in 2005, and her first hit was the single Smile, which, for a debut song, gained considerable popularity. In 2011, this track was included in the list of the "150 best of the last 15 years", but later the singer "felt the pressure of fame" and began to struggle with an eating disorder.

"A lot of people came up to me and told me how great I looked. And I was on the cover of every magazine that said: "Lily looks amazing - look how much weight she's lost". But I wasn't happy, I really wasn't happy," the artist said.

She also reflected on the reason for the collapse of her music career: "I was quite impudent in my behavior. I think I just didn't care."

In the 2010s, Lily Allen began to focus more on her family than on her art. At that time, the singer was not yet married. At first, her life was shaken by the birth of her deceased son in 2010. However, a year later, her daughter Ethel was born, and two years later, Marnie Rose was born to actor Sam Cooper.

"Your life is no longer yours (after having children - Ed.), it's as simple as that. Your freedom has disappeared - in the most beautiful sense of the word... I've never been successful socially; in fact, maybe that's why I drank and did drugs in the past... actually, having children helped me a lot with that. They made me learn about how people interact with each other in the simplest of ways," Lily Allen told People magazine.

In 2018, her marriage also collapsed. She told the same publication that the breakup was necessary.

"It was very sad... I think it was the right decision, and it was necessary, and at the end of the day, I just want to create a safe and secure environment for my children, and this was, ironically, the best way to do that," she admitted.

It was because of her desire to envelop her children in love and care that the celebrity put her art on the back burner. In an interview on the Radio Times Podcast, Allen said that it was her offspring who ruined her career.

"My children have ruined my career. I love them, and they complete me, but from a pop star's point of view, they've completely ruined it," she said.

Already in 2020, the singer fell in love with actor and Stranger Things star David Harbour. "My kids seem to be on the right track, and I'm in a really happy relationship, a really healthy relationship," she claimed in 2021.
