Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service is under US sanctions: restrictions against Russia have been extended

US extends sanctions against Russia

The US has imposed new sanctions on Russia. Among other things, they affected the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, as well as electronics manufacturers and importers.

This was reported by the US Treasury Department. In total, the package includes individuals and legal entities from more than 20 countries. In particular, sanctions were imposed against the following legal entities:

  • The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service;
  • energy educational institutions of the Russian Federation (including St. Petersburg Mining University and Gubkin Russian Oil and Gas University);
  • energy-related research institutes;
  • companies producing and importing drilling and mining equipment;
  • 30 companies importing and producing electronics and semiconductors;
  • 12 organisations belonging to Ostec Group (operating in the technology sector), as well as two related parties.

The list of sanctioned individuals includes Russian Deputy Prime Minister Viktoria Abramchenko, Minister of Education Sergey Kravtsov, presidential aides Dmitry Shalkov and Igor Levitan, and Ombudsman Tatyana Moskalkova. Businessman Igor Kesayev, a major co-owner of the Mercury Group and the Megapolis tobacco distributor, was also sanctioned.

It is noted that this package is directed not only against the Kremlin, but also against those who are trying to help Russia circumvent or evade sanctions. "Today's actions will further reduce Putin's ability to carry out a barbaric invasion and advance our global efforts to stop Russia's attempts to evade sanctions," said US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL, on May 19, the UK, Australia and Canada also announced sanctions against Russia. The British list, for example, includes Rosbank, Tinkoff Bank and Severstal.
