"No more money": Putin's friend Orban gets nervous about EU financial aid for Ukraine
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who is often called "Putin's friend," called on EU countries not to give any money to Ukraine. He said that it is not clear to him "where the funds have gone".
Orban said this to the Hungarian press. According to him, Ukraine has been given 70 billion euros in a year and a half and is preparing to receive another 50 billion.
"This is a big problem. Who checks if it goes for the right purpose? In two and a half or three years, the European Union will be on the verge of financial bankruptcy... We will not give more money to Ukraine until we are told what the 70 billion euros we gave earlier have gone for," Orban said.
The Hungarian prime minister also cynically declared that the EU's approach to the war unleashed by Russia was "wrong". The mistake, according to Orban, is the decision to "give money for the war so that the Russians can be defeated."
Moreover, Orban repeated the Kremlin propaganda narrative that sanctions against Russia supposedly do not work. "We have not defeated Russia, the Russian political leadership is in place, the Russian economy feels very good because of this. By comparison, we are the ones suffering from high inflation and we have no more money to support Ukrainians," Orban said.
However, he was silent about the rebellion of Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of the Wagner PMC. Nor did Orban mention that Russia's energy revenues are shrinking and that the Kremlin's military goals have never been met.
"Where is the money of the Hungarians? Where is the money of Polish people? I'm afraid it's in Ukraine. We gave it away for a war that shouldn't have happened," Orban added, without specifying that it was Russia that started the war.
As reported by OBOZREVATEL, Orban previously said that he did not consider Russian President Vladimir Putin a war criminal. He also called the arrest warrant for the Russian dictator issued by the International Criminal Court "inappropriate."
