Republican congressman opposes military aid to Israel and Ukraine

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Turner, a Republican, expressed doubt that Washington would be able to agree on and approve aid for Israel and Ukraine by the end of 2023. At the same time, his Democratic opponent, Senator Chuck Schumer, noted that military aid packages for both countries at war are a key task that needs to be resolved by early 2024.

This was reported by Bloomberg, citing the words of the two congressmen. Turner believes it is necessary to limit the provision of asylum for those who seek it in the context of the armed conflict in the Middle East.

"Congress is going to demand that the laws be changed to ensure that the border returns to its former state, without a flood of refugees from the Gulf of Mexico," the Republican said.

Schumer, on the other hand, prepared an official letter to his colleagues, emphasizing the importance of the necessary military capabilities to confront and deter the enemies of those allies who seek Washington's help. The Democratic senator also considers it "critically important" for Congress to provide humanitarian aid to Palestinian citizens.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, the packages of comprehensive military aid to Jerusalem and Kyiv will be discussed in detail in the United States after Thanksgiving, which Americans celebrate on November 23 this year. Representatives of the Democratic and Republican parties managed to reach an agreement.

At the same time, the House of Representatives emphasized that US aid to Ukraine and Israel will be divided. The decision will be made by two different bills, not one, as previously expected.
