Putin had lengthy talks with Iranian president Raisi. US reaction
The United States has reacted to the visit of Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi to the aggressor country of Russia and his lengthy talks with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. Washington noted that the increased military cooperation between the two countries fuels Russia's aggression against Ukraine and increases the armed threat from Iran in the Middle East.
This statement was made by White House National Security Council Coordinator John Kirby at a briefing on Thursday, December 7, Ukrinform reports. He noted that Moscow and Tehran are exchanging weapons systems and this is bad not only for Ukrainians but also for the peoples in the Middle East.
According to Kirby, the defense partnership between Russia and Iran has been flourishing for many months. In particular, this is evidenced by Tehran's transfer of kamikaze drones to the Russian occupiers.
Iran has also helped Moscow create production facilities in Russia so that the occupiers can produce their own UAVs using the Iranian model.
In addition, Iran is also negotiating with Russia to supply Moscow with weapons.
"We reasonably believe that they (Iran - Ed.) want to get themselves some sophisticated Russian military equipment: attack helicopters or fixed-wing aircraft, cruise and ballistic missiles," the American official said.
On December 7, Russian propagandists actively covered Putin's meeting with Raisi. They discussed trade between Moscow and Tehran, which grew by 20% in 2023 to $5 billion amid trade in kamikaze drones.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, earlier, the United States said it had received intelligence that military cooperation between Russia and Iran had intensified. In particular, Tehran may be preparing to transfer missiles to Moscow for use in the war against Ukraine.
