Orban made the statement after the EU summit's decision to help Ukraine

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who was forced by the European Union to unblock the allocation of 50 billion euros in aid to Ukraine, announced the EU's decision as his own victory. However, he "forgot" to mention that Hungary had been deprived of its veto power in this matter.

Orban made the statement on Facebook. He boasted that he had "won" the EU's decision, under which Hungary "remains on the side of peace."

"We won it! Hungarians should not give money to Ukrainians! We will not take part in the war, we will not send weapons, we remain on the side of peace!" the Hungarian prime minister wrote on social media.

According to Orban, Hungary has allegedly agreed on a "control mechanism" that "guarantees the reasonable use of money" for Ukraine.

As a reminder, one of the main topics of the summit in Brussels on February 1 was an agreement on a record economic aid package to Ukraine worth €50 billion over 4 years. And the leaders of the European Union approved this decision.

To do this, they had to compromise and partially accept Orban's proposal to conduct an annual review of Ukraine's financing within the 4-year aid package. At the same time, Hungary, which demanded the right to veto the continuation of funding after each review, will not receive it, which is contrary to Orban's demands.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, on February 1, the European Council supported the plan under the Ukraine Facility program to provide the EU with a record economic assistance to Ukraine of 50 billion euros over 4 years, provided that Ukraine implements several reforms. Assistance to Ukraine will be provided until 2027. The money will be allocated both in the form of loans and non-refundable grants.
