Yakovenko explains why "peace in the middle" is impossible in Ukraine and names the main mistake of the Czech President

Czech President Petr Pavel is a great friend of Ukraine, but he made a mistake by assuming a "peace in the middle" at the expense of "dividing" the Ukrainian state. In any case, such peace is impossible, because the Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin will not go for it.

This opinion was expressed in an exclusive interview with OBOZ.UA by Russian opposition politician and journalist Igor Yakovenko. According to him, one should not "immediately try to classify" Pavel as an enemy of Ukraine and enroll him in the camp of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban or Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.

"This is a man who fully supports Ukraine. Remember his recent initiative to collect a million shells for Ukraine around the world. Undoubtedly, he is a great friend of Ukraine. But in this case, I think it's about him trying to be realistic, to proceed from what is available today because there are big problems associated with American support for Ukraine, associated with European unity. And all this affects the frontline. Indeed, the situation at ground zero is difficult," Yakovenko said.

At the same time, he pointed out that a politician of such a level as Piotr Pawel should have thought carefully before making such statements.

"It seems to me that the mistake of Petr Pavel is not that he makes such a forecast based on some objective analysis, but that any word of a politician, especially a well-known one with such a biography as Czech President Petr Pavel, affects the situation. He is not some scientist who studies the life of spiders or butterflies. The statements of an entomologist do not affect the lives of spiders or butterflies. But a politician's statements about the real situation do affect the course of events," the Russian oppositionist said.

He added that, perhaps, the analysis of the situation "really prompts" Pavel to make such a conclusion, "but it is wrong to say such things publicly", as in this way he changes the situation towards such a forecast.

"There is a concept of 'self-fulfilling predictions'. If you publicly express the belief that a bank will go bankrupt, it will happen, even though it had a chance to be saved. Because depositors will run to withdraw their money, the massive outflow of funds from this bank will indeed make this prediction come true. It seems to me that such statements by the politician make it possible that the forecast may come true," Yakovenko said.

According to him, the spread of such opinions could lead to a decrease in support for Ukraine.

"If most Western politicians believe that Ukraine cannot win, what is the point of giving it money? What is the point of giving it weapons? You need to negotiate with Putin, but it is impossible to negotiate with Putin – that is the main problem. And the main mistake of this forecast is that there will be no such "peace in the middle. " Even if Ukraine suddenly decides to go for such a peace in the middle, when neither yours nor ours is acceptable, Putin will not do it. This is not a situation that can be predicted from the point of view of common sense. The Russian dictator is not guided by common sense," the politician said.

He added that Pavel probably has good intentions, but he is making a mistake not as a military expert, not as an analyst, but as a politician, because, in politics, such statements change the situation.

"And this statement by the Czech president changes the circumstances for the worse," Yakovenko stated.
