The essence of the bilateral security agreements between Ukraine and the United States is to ensure Ukraine's defense until the country becomes a member of NATO. The document is still being developed.

This was stated by U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink at a briefing in Kyiv. She confirmed that the parties are negotiating, but did not specify any time frame.

"Yes, we are working on such a document. I expect that at some point in the near future we will be able to talk more about it publicly," Ms. Ambassador said in response to a question.

She expects the process to move forward "as quickly as we can."

The idea of the document is to "give Ukrainians confidence" in their security on the way to NATO. The diplomat does not know whether the agreement will be similar to similar documents signed with other countries (e.g., France, Germany).

"It will be something that will give you reassurance and confidence that the United States will support your defense in this interim period," Brink said.
