Fires in Russia on January 14 after a UAV attack

At night, Ukrainian drones attacked a number of military facilities in Russia. Numerous explosions set fire to factories and refineries in the cities of Engels, Saratov, Kazan, and beyond.

The damage was confirmed by the authorities in some regions, who claimed that the damage had been repaired an hour after the "cotton". At the same time, Russians continued to post footage of large-scale fires online. The Security Service of Ukraine and the Defense Forces of Ukraine organized such a "hot" night for the aggressor country.

An enterprise in Engels and a refinery in Saratov were attacked

At first, Saratov Telegram channels said that sirens in the region woke up residents in the middle of the night – around 04:00 local time. After a while, the sounds of explosions were heard in the regional center and neighboring Engels, claiming: "the air defense system is working." Later, there was talk of a fire.

"A few minutes ago, eyewitnesses heard about 10 explosions over Engels. Smoke is now visible over one of the districts," Russian publicists confirmed.

Subsequently, videos and photos appeared explaining that it was the attacked enterprise that was burning. Saratov residents posted footage of the fire in the city opposite them on the left bank of the Volga, which hit had occured just a week earlier.

Governor Roman Busargin confirmed the damage to an industrial plant in the city, saying emergency services are "working in an enhanced mode."

An hour later, locals complained on Telegram channels, saying that sirens were sounding again in Saratov and Engels.

Rosaviatsia announced the temporary closure of Saratov's Gagarin airport for arriving and departing flights. The local administration announced the transfer of schools to remote learning due to the threat of a UAV attack.

"An oil refinery is on fire and has not been put out for five days," the propagandists stated.

The Russians also claimed that Saratov had also been "visited" – an oil refinery there also caught fire.

Ukraine's official response

Last night, operators of the 14th separate regiment of unmanned aerial vehicles, in cooperation with other components of the Defense Forces, repeatedly hit the infrastructure of the Engels-2 military airfield, where Tu-95MS and Tu-160 aircraft of the 22nd Heavy Bomber Division are based.

As a result of the strike, tanks with rare aviation fuel for Tu-160 bombers, which Russia uses to terrorize the civilian population of Ukraine, caught fire on the territory of the Kristall oil depot.

"The several-day complex operation to reduce the capabilities of the enemy's strategic aviation is over. We are doing everything possible to ensure that Engels fire brigades, which have just extinguished the flames after the previous strike, are not left without work in the face of the increasingly difficult economic situation in Russia," the 14th Separate Air Force Regiment's Telegram channel says.

Orgsintez plant attacked in Kazan

At the same time, Tatarstan's publics reported that the "Armed Forces of Ukraine tried to attack" the Orgsintez plant (officially producing organic synthesis products) in Kazan. According to local residents, a strong fire broke out there as well, with smoke billowing from different parts of the city.

"The wreckage of the UAV fell on the territory of a chemical industry enterprise, and a fire started there. Rescuers are now working at the scene," the Russians claimed, posting footage of the large-scale fire.

The authorities of the Republic of Tatarstan confirmed the damage. According to them, at 05:20 in the suburbs of Kazan, a gas tank "caught fire" as a result of a UAV attack. They say that no one was injured in the incident, and emergency services that quickly arrived at the scene "eliminated the consequences."

For its part, the ASTRA Telegram channel claimed that a liquefied natural gas storage facility was actually burning in Kazan after the UAV attack. According to the authors, the video shows that the burning is taking place behind the Kazanogrsintez enterprise, where the base belonging to Gazprom is located.

"The video shows a distinctive pipe and power line. The facility is a gas station. Local residents write in their reviews that they filled cars and household gas cylinders with gas there. The distance between the facilities is about 2 km," the statement said.

The head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Lieutenant Andriy Kovalenko, noted that the Kazan plant "Orgsintez" was hit because it is a strategic facility that is of direct importance to the military-industrial complex of the aggressor country of the Russian Federation. The company specializes in the production of materials used in the creation of military equipment, weapons, and components; it also produces components for explosives used in the production of ammunition.

In general, he emphasized that on the night of January 14, as well as in the evening of January 13, those facilities in Russia were burning that work for the Russian war against Ukraine and are legitimate targets for destruction.

"The targets are in Engels, Saratov, Kazan, Bryansk, Tula, including factories for the production of components and substances for weapons, a refinery, an oil depot, warehouses and air defense facilities of the Russian Federation," Kovalenko wrote.

Transneft enterprise attacked

Also in the Republic of Tatarstan, drones attacked Transneft's main oil pumping station in Almetyevsk. The volume of its tank farm is 650 million cubic meters.

The local administration stated that "anti-terrorist security measures" were being taken in the city's industrial zone "to ensure security".

In total, Russian propagandists complained on the morning of January 14 that at least five regions of the Russian Federation were under massive UAV attack. In addition to attacks on oil depots and factories in the above cities, explosions due to "16 drones attacking" were heard near the town of Aleksin in Tula region; allegedly "14 Ukrainian drones" were spotted in Rostov region; three drones attacked Kotovsk in Tambov region; "activity was recorded in Voronezh at night"; and "17 Ukrainian drones were shot down" in Orel region.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, on the evening of January 13, Russians announced an attack with missiles and UAVs in the Bryansk region: the chemical plant named after the 50th anniversary of the USSR in the village of Siltse was hit. Residents of the Tula region of the Russian Federation also complained about a massive drone attack.
