"The use of weapons was 1 to 12": Zelenskyy explains the problem Ukraine faced in the war

Due to serious delays in Western military assistance, the aggressor country Russia had a 12-to-1 advantage over Ukraine in the use of artillery shells at one point in the war. The situation is better now, but the Ukrainian Armed Forces have not yet received all the weapons promised by our partners.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on this issue in a new interview with NBC News. According to him, due to the significant shortage of shells, the Ukrainian Defense Forces had to look for other solutions.

"Just imagine, at some point in this supply gap, our use of weapons was 1 to 12 – artillery. One of our shells to 12 of Russia's shells. What do you have to do? It doesn't matter how many people you have standing here if they have 12 shells and you have 1, you will simply have more people standing and more people dying," Zelenskyy said.

He said that Ukraine had to look for smart solutions and ideas. In this context, the president recalled the Kursk operation, which helped to pull back enemy forces.

Currently, the ratio of artillery strikes between Russia and Ukraine is 3 to 1, not 12 to 1.

"Do you realize the difference? Have we increased the number of weapons? No. Or have they decreased? Yes! Because certain forces and certain means have been redeployed," the head of state said.

Ukraine was preparing it in secret and did not inform its partners so that the details would not get to the Russians. Even many Ukrainian institutions did not know about the upcoming offensive.
