Russia launched an attack on Ukraine on May 9: Air Defense Forces shot down missiles over Kyiv, Dnipro and Cherkasskaya oblast

On May 9, the terrorist Russian state launched another aerial attack on Ukraine at the beginning of the month, firing missiles into Kyiv, Dnipro, and Cherkasy regions. Around 5 a.m., the first explosions came in the Kyiv region - the air defense system went off and about 15 enemy targets were shot down.

The large-scale countrywide alert was declared from 04:00 on Tuesday, in the south and east half an hour earlier, and the shutdowns began at 06:00. Local military administrations were notified of the consequences of the enemy attack (to see a photo, scroll to the end of the news).

Kyiv and the region

"Kyiv region. Attention. Missile threat! Air defense forces are working on targets. Stay in shelters until the air-raid alarms go off," the Kyiv OVA noted after the morning explosions.

Citizens were asked to observe informational silence - not to record and not to put on the net the work of our defenders. The same appeal was made to the inhabitants by the capital's authorities.

"The air defense system is working in the vicinity of Kyiv! Stay in shelters until the air alert is lifted!" - the message said.

Around 05:20 a.m., a very powerful explosion sounded in the capital. Many residents at that time were hiding in the subway, which worked as a shelter.

Subsequently, it became known that sky defenders repelled a Russian missile attack on the Kyiv region. At the same time, the falling debris caused a fire in the yard of a house in the Goloseevsky district.

"The blazing debris was extinguished. There were no casualties or injuries. Specialists-explosive technicians, rescuers, and police are still working on the site," said the mayor Vitaly Klitschko.

Also in the Shevchenkivsky district, there was debris on the roadway. There was no information about the victims.

According to KGB chief Serhiy Popko, this was the fifth Russian air attack on Kyiv since the beginning of May. This time cruise missiles, most likely of the X-101 (X-555) type, were fired by the enemy from four Tu-95MS strategic bombers, in particular from the Caspian Sea area.

They did not reach their targets. The capital's anti-aircraft defense worked perfectly again - tentatively, about half a dozen enemy targets were detected and destroyed in the airspace around Kyiv.

The head of the Kyiv region police Andrei Nebytov noted that parts of the enemy missile were found in the territory of a settlement in one of the districts of the region. There is partial destruction of civil infrastructure. But thanks to the skillful work of anti-aircraft defense it was possible to avoid human casualties and turn another Russian cruise missile into scrap metal.

According to the head of the President's Office, Andriy Yermak, a downed rocket (X-55SM) fell in the yard of a private house in the village of Mirotske in the Buchanskiy district of Kyiv region. The debris damaged the roof. There were no dead or injured.

Another cruise missile, which also looked like an X-55C, was found in a field in the village of Tarasovka, Boyarska community of Fastovsky district.

Also in one of the districts of the Kyiv region was discovered a crater 8 meters in diameter, was formed as a result of Russian shelling. Its depth is more than 2.5 meters.

Dnipro

During the night, the military from the Vostok air command shot down all eight missiles that the enemy had directed at the Dnepropetrovsk region. At the same time, debris from the Russian "scrap metal" fell on a four-story building in Dnepr. A 32-year-old woman was injured there and taken to hospital.

The house damaged the roof and the ceiling of several apartments. A missile's warhead was found on the third floor. A few dozen residents were evacuated while the bomb squad worked. Dangerous debris was taken away by specialists in order to destroy it.

Cherkasy

At dawn on May 9, Russia also attacked the Cherkasy region of Ukraine - tentatively, it was two cruise missiles.

"In one of the cases we had a minor fire at the site of the fall. Also, the blast damaged windows in a communal facility," said the head of the OVA, Igor Taburets.

Air defense work

According to the Air Force of the AFU, the defenders of the skies disarmed a total of 23 of 25 cruise missiles on the night of May 9. These were "Kalibras," which the occupiers launched late Monday night from carriers in the Black Sea and aimed at the eastern regions of the country.

On Tuesday morning, Ukraine's air defense forces and assets destroyed 15 Kh-101/Kh-555 missiles: 14 of them by defenders from the Air Command Center and one more in Air Command South's area of responsibility.

U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Brigitte Brink noted that the terrorist state attacked Ukrainian cities with missiles after many countries around the world celebrated Victory Day over Nazism in World War II.

"Ukraine, Europe, and the U.S. honored the victory over tyranny yesterday. Russia celebrates May 9 with new missiles and drones launched toward Ukrainian cities and sleeping civilians," she wrote on Twitter.

As OBOZREVATEL reported, on the night of May 8, Russia attacked the Ukrainian capital with 35 kamikaze drones of Iranian production. They flew from the Bryansk region of the aggressor country. Ukrainian air defense forces shot down all the enemy strike UAVs. At the same time, their debris damaged a house, a gas pipe, and a fuel tank, and caused casualties.

In addition, the Russian Federation carried out eight launches of X-22 missiles in the Odesa Region - the strikes struck one of the logistics infrastructure depots in the territory of the Odesa Region, as well as the Black Sea coast. A large fire broke out at the warehouse, killing and injuring people.
