DIU reveals how Russian ship "Sergey Kotov" worth $65 million was hit and sunk

The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine confirmed the destruction of the Russian warship "Sergey Kotov" in the temporarily occupied Crimea. The agency also clarified that the enemy vessel was sunk with the help of Magura V5 marine drones.

Ukrainian intelligence noted that the ship was damaged in the stern, starboard and port sides. This was reported on Telegram by the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.

According to intelligence, the mission to destroy the Russian ship was carried out by a special unit of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine Group 13. The operation took place in cooperation with the Ukrainian Navy and with the support of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine.

They also stated that the "Sergey Kotov" was attacked by Magura V5 maritime drones. As a result of the attack, the ship sustained damage to the stern, starboard and port sides.

In addition, the GUR noted that the enemy ship was hit in the territorial waters of Ukraine, near the Kerch Strait. It is noteworthy that the cost of the sunken ship is about $65 million.

Andriy Yusov, a representative of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, told Radio Liberty that there had been successful attacks on the Sergey Kotov ship before, but the occupiers had restored it. This time the ship finally went down.

He also emphasized that there are dead and wounded among the crew. Yusov added that part of the crew was able to evacuate, so the exact number of eliminated invaders is being clarified.

The patrol ship of Project 22160 "Sergey Kotov" was armed with a 76.2 mm AK176MA artillery system. It was also equipped with a Positive-MK radar station with a range of 300 km. The crew consisted of 80 people, and the ship was also equipped with a helicopter pad.

The Ukrainian Navy noted that the design of the 22160 ship is one of the most modern in Russia. Currently, only four such ships have been launched: Vasily Bykov, Dmitry Rogachev, Pavel Derzhavin, and Sergey Kotov. So far, only the Dmitry Rogachev has not been damaged.

It is noteworthy that on the morning of March 5, the Russian Defense Ministry complained about a UAV attack in the Belgorod region. The terrorist agency claimed to have "shot down" all the drones. At the same time, the invaders said nothing about the explosions in the temporarily occupied Crimea.

As a reminder, the network reported an alleged massive attack by "Ukrainian" UAVs and maritime drones on ground targets in the temporarily occupied Crimea. The propagandists complained that the Black Sea Fleet ships and the Crimean bridge were also targeted.

Later, it became known that the Russian warship Sergey Kotov was attacked off the coast of the Ukrainian peninsula. Eyewitnesses filmed the moment when a large explosion occurred near the enemy ship.
