Russian occupiers were chased out of the town of Balakliia a year ago
The Ukrainian Defense Forces liberated the town of Balakliia in the Kharkiv region from Russian invaders one year ago on September 8, 2022. It was there that our soldiers shot a touching video with Taras Shevchenko's "message" to Ukrainians.
The servicemen tore down a propaganda poster placed by the occupants with the inscription "We are one nation with Russia" from a billboard. It turned out that Shevchenko's poem "Caucasus" was under it. This moment was caught on video (to watch the recording, scroll to the end of the page).
One of the soldiers quoted Kobzar's lines:
And glory to you, dark-blue mountains,
Frost and snow protect you;

God does not forget you.

Right and holy freedom.
The chief of staff of the KRAKEN special unit Kostiantyn Nemichev said that his soldiers took part in the counter-offensive in Kharkiv Region on his Telegram.
"Proud to have had the opportunity to participate in those historic events with my unit. I am proud that KRAKEN was one of those who made Kharkiv counteroffensive possible," Nemichev wrote and shared a video clip filmed in Balakliia.
President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the liberation of Balakliia from the Russian occupiers. It became the first major city that was de-occupied.
"Everything is in its place. The flag of Ukraine in a free Ukrainian city under a free Ukrainian sky", the head of the country then emphasized.
Russian troops seized Balakliia in early March 2022. The inhabitants of the settlement spent more than half a year in occupation.
As OBOZREVATEL wrote, the offensive of the Ukrainian troops in the Slobozhansk direction began in September 2022 in conditions of enhanced measures of secrecy. Servicemen of the National Guard, who took part in it, shared how the defenders of Ukraine managed to achieve success.
