"It is necessary to live by the charter": the champion of the Olympic Games from Russia demanded from Ukrainians "good-neighborliness and friendship"
The President of the Russian Wrestling Federation, Mikhail Mamiashvili, has reacted angrily to Ukraine's possible boycott of the Paris Olympics after Russian athletes are allowed to participate. The champion of the 88 Games complained that such a position is not "aimed at friendship and development between the countries," forgetting about the criminal war that Russia unleashed last February.
Mamiashvili said this in a commentary to the Kremlin's Russia Today TV channel. The former Greco-Roman wrestler, who was born in Konotop, Ukraine, demanded that Ukrainians "live by the charter" and adhere to the principle of "good neighborliness and friendship," and issued the traditional Russian propaganda narrative about the politicization of sports.
"There is no end to this madness. They have already tried to organize boycotts at other international competitions. But no one took them into account. So it's their business, their right. It is a pity that this idea is being imposed on Ukrainian athletes. Such a strategy does not serve the ideals of the Olympic Charter, nor is it aimed at friendship and development between countries. So this is another attempt to use the Olympic movement for political purposes. This is unacceptable. We must live by the charter and principles that have been laid down for centuries. Good neighborliness and friendship are the main principles of the sports movement," Mamiashvili said.
Earlier, Ukraine's acting Sports Minister Matviy Bidnyi called the IOC's decision to allow Russians to participate in the 2024 Games irresponsible and named the condition under which our country will boycott the Olympics.
The Russian Federation also reacted angrilyto the conditions of athletes' admission to the competition. Meanwhile, the International Federation of Athletics announced the complete suspension of Russian athletes from the Olympics in Paris.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, former speed skater and State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova complained about Ukrainians, whom everyone is allegedly tired of because of our country's possible boycott of the 2024 Olympics. And Veronika Stepanova, an Olympic champion with the "intelligence of a washing machine," called on Russians to organize provocations at the Games.
