Ukraine to launch production of 155 mm NATO-standard ammunition by the end of the year - Kamyshyn

Ukraine is ramping up production of ammunition, which the military is currently consuming at a frantic pace at the frontline. In July 2023 alone, the country produced more than twice as much mortar and artillery ammunition as in the whole of last year, and by the end of this year, production of NATO-standard 155-mm ammunition will be launched.
This was announced in an interview with The Wall Street Journal by Minister for Strategic Industries Oleksandr Kamyshyn. He noted that today's figure shows not how much Ukraine produces now, but how little it used to produce, as a year before the invasion, our country did not produce ammunition at all.
According to the minister, the specific figures are classified, but it will take years before Ukraine can produce enough ammunition to meet current needs.
Kamyshyn said that Ukrainian soldiers are currently consuming ammunition on the battlefield at a rate of about 90,000 rounds per month.
The minister visited dozens of factories to speed up production and was surprised that in the second year of the war, some of them do not work around the clock or on weekends. He is convinced that under martial law, everyone should work 24/7.
Kamyshyn added that Ukraine's defence industry can serve as an engine for economic recovery and ensure its security after the war.
Earlier, National Security and Defence Council Secretary Oleksiy Danilov said that Ukraine is now actively establishing its own arms production. For a long time, this industry was not a priority, but now it has moved forward.
Danilov noted that both state-owned and privately owned military-industrial enterprises are gaining momentum. In particular, the programme for the production of combat drones, ammunition, and the missile programme has moved forward.
As reported by OBOZREVATEL:
- According to Danilov, Ukraine has every right to use weapons created by its own military-industrial complex to strike at the territory of the Russian Federation. At the same time, according to the agreements, the Defence Forces cannot use weapons from partner countries for such strikes;
- Ukraine is increasing production of 3D-printed bombs. Soldiers of the Defence Forces are already using homemade bombs at the front.
