An outbreak of scarlet fever among children has been recorded in the Pre-Carpathian region. In particular, as of the morning of March 4, 18 cases of the disease were officially registered in the town of Kalush, Ivano-Frankivsk region.

One child, a pupil of lyceum No. 2, was hospitalized in a moderate condition and is now recovering. This was reported by the press service of the Kalush city council.

In particular, in this educational institution, there are only 4 cases of scarlatina, 2 of them in one class.

The lyceum has quartz and disinfected classes for sick children.

Also, the lyceum administration makes sure that the sick are at home during the incubation period (21 days).

The municipality says that there is no reason to close classes in Kalush, as quarantine is introduced when the incidence rate is at least 20%.

Scarlet fever is an infectious disease caused by Streptococcus pyogenes. The symptoms of scarlatina are a fine-pointed, later erythematous rash, fever, acute tonsillitis, and general intoxication.

The disease is transmitted mainly by airborne droplets, as well as through clothes, household items, food, dirty hands, and sometimes through scratches and cuts on the skin.

Scarlatina is usually treated at home, the doctor prescribes the patient antibiotics, antihistamines, vitamins, a nutritious diet, and plenty of fluids. Inpatient treatment is prescribed in case of severe course and complications.

Recovery usually occurs within 7-10 days of illness. However, a child may return to school only after 12 days after recovery, that is, after 21 days from the start of the disease, because the entire period of illness and recovery remains contagious.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL, in February an outbreak of salmonellosis was registered in Kyiv. The cause was contaminated eggs with the bacterium.
