Does garlic help to fight acute respiratory infections: the Ministry of Health answered

One of the most popular folk remedies for colds is garlic. It is used for prevention and given to those who are already sick, to ease the course of the flu. But does garlic really help during a cold?

The answer was given by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. In short, there is no reliable data on its therapeutic effect.

Scientists are really interested in whether garlic has the properties attributed to it. And there are already some scientific studies on this subject. But the quality of such works is still very low, and the number of people who have taken part in the study of garlic's effects is too small to draw global conclusions.

What is known for sure about garlic is that it contains a number of beneficial substances. In particular:

  • Manganese;
  • vitamin B6;
  • vitamin C;
  • selenium.

But this is not the end of the useful components of the flavorful product. For example, allicin has been isolated in it, a liquid that probably really helps the human body to fight bacteria and viruses.

Research on the therapeutic properties of garlic continues. So it's too early to rely on it completely for the prevention and treatment of SARS, but you can use it as a supportive tool. At least, it will make your dishes tastier.
