"There can be no positive decision." Russia refuses to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games at the rowing tournament

Russian rowers have refused to participate in the Olympic Games in Paris and will not compete in the qualifying competitions for the 2024 Games, the press service of the Russian Rowing Federation (RRF) has reported. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) allowed the Russians who qualified for the Olympic Games in Paris in neutral status under strict conditions.

"The coaching staff of the national team, together with the athletes, after discussion at a general meeting, decided to refuse to participate in the qualifying competitions and the Olympic Games in Paris under the conditions and obligations set by the International Rowing Federation (Worldrowing) and the IOC," the RRF said in a statement.

The RRF believes that the current situation "contradicts all sports norms and laws."

"Athletes react very sensitively and painfully to all the statements, statements and additional conditions. We are being offered to participate on discriminatory terms with unknown consequences and are also being asked to make financial commitments. There can be no positive decision in such a way," the RRF is convinced.

It is worth noting that this is not the first Russian federation to refuse the 2024 Olympics. Last December, the Russian rhythmic gymnastics team refused to participate in international competitions without national symbols.

On April 1, the leaders of the Russian national sailing team refused to participate in the qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games and, accordingly, the Games themselves. Archers will not be going to Paris either.
