The procedure for purchasing international bus tickets updated for all Ukrainians: how to buy them now

It will be easier for Ukrainians to travel abroad by bus. Now you can buy tickets for international flights on a special platform launched by the Ministry of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure.

The new state International Bus Routes Register provides information on regular international bus routes. The platform's special feature is the improved quality and safety of transportation as users will be able to:

• choose a legal and trusted carrier;
• plan a safe route;
• find out which checkpoint the bus will cross and whether they can count on the absence of physical queues.

Currently, the portal offers more than 1.2 thousand buses. When planning a trip, you can choose the route that will cross the border without queues, as well as find out the length of it and the estimated travel time. In addition, you can choose a specific carrier or bus station to travel to.

The Cabinet of Ministers announced plans to create a register of international bus routes in Ukraine back in January. It was launched as part of a comprehensive reform of international passenger transportation.

How is international passenger transportation changing?

According to a study by the Ministry of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure, in 2023, 7.5 million Ukrainians used buses to cross the border. 90% of them were women, and a third were traveling with children. To simplify and make international transportation safer, Ukraine has launched a reform.

In addition to the launch of the online portal for passengers and carriers autobus.gov.ua, the reform also includes:

• launch of eCheckpoints for buses - this will allow timely response to challenges that may occur at the border that keep people waiting at checkpoints, as well as automatically check permits to prevent illegal transportation;
• creation of an online carrier's office for opening international routes - to replace the paper-based and bureaucratic procedure for opening a route with a fast and fully digital procedure;
• update of transportation rules and simpler market access.
