Bleach is an indispensable household tool. Not only does it help remove the most difficult stains, but it also disinfects perfectly.

However, bleach contains chlorine or sodium hypochlorite, which are strong oxidizing agents and can leave stains on fabrics. Santeplusmag has told you how to get rid of them.

What to do if bleach gets on clothes?

If you notice a bleach stain on your clothes, follow these steps:

  • Quickly rinse the stain with cold water to remove any bleach residue and reduce its impact;
  • Make a paste of baking soda and water and apply it evenly to the stained area;
  • Allow the paste to dry, then gently remove it with a toothbrush or soft-bristled brush;
  • Rinse the cloth with water and let it dry.

After these steps, you can use one of the tips below to restore the color to the fabric.

Alcohol 70%

For small stains on dark clothes, the method with alcohol is suitable.

Dampen a cotton pad with the liquid and gently treat the stain, starting from the edges and moving towards the center. This will help to partially transfer the dye from the undamaged fabric to the discolored area.

Fabric dye

If the bleach stain is large, you can try to completely dye the garment. First, pour bleach over the entire T-shirt, pants, etc. to remove the color, and then follow the instructions on the fabric dye package to dye them again.

Hydrogen peroxide (for white fabrics)

Bleach can leave yellowish marks on white clothes. Here's how to remove them:

  • First, rinse the area where the bleach got on;
  • Apply peroxide to the stain with a cloth or cotton pad;
  • Leave on for a few minutes, then rinse with cold water.

Vinegar or lemon juice (for black and dark clothes)

Bleach can leave stubborn stains on dark clothes. They are very difficult to hide or remove, but there is a way to minimize the damage.

  • Mix equal parts white vinegar or lemon juice with water;
  • Apply the solution to the stain with a cotton pad;
  • Leave on for a few minutes, then rinse with water.
