The American space agency has published early concept images and possible designs for a future base on the Moon, which will appear in the 2030s. It will be NASA's "first lunar outpost" with stunning views and three floors for human habitation.

There will be rooms for work and rest inside the inflatable habitat module. Still, the final design of the complex habitat on the lunar surface has not yet been approved by NASA, TheSun writes.

"Nasa is currently developing concepts for sustained crewed missions to the lunar surface. Sustained missions will occur on annual basis for durations of 30 days or more. To house and support the crew, Nasa is exploring the use of a lunar Surface Habitat," said NASA scientist Paul Kesseler.

"The Surface Habitat is the core habitation capability for the Artemis Base Camp. As a non-mobile, habitable element, it effectively anchors long-term, human-led exploration at the South Pole of the Moon," Kesseler added.

According to the developers, the three-story building will have an inflatable upper section. It will provide its own communications, life support, and waste disposal, including built-in toilets.

The lower deck of the structure will be a "aluminium pressure vessel". And the two upper decks will be inside an inflatable vessel just over 6.5 meters wide, experts say.

According to NASA, such a lunar lodge can house "as many as four crew members on shorter surface stays."

The developers provide a detailed diagram of the space hut. The first level would have access to the airlock, as well as a work desk, computer station, and access to the spacesuit ports.

On the second level, there is a training area with a simulator, a "hygiene" room, and a biolab, experts say. "You'd climb up a central ladder to reach this floor, entering the inflatable portion of the habitat," the engineers say.

The second floor of the lunar hut will have a window that will provide a great view of the moon, the developers say.

And on the third floor, there is "space for two private crew quarters." According to the experts, there will be enough space for "sleeping and stretching," as well as a personal desk.

This floor will also have storage space, a galley kitchen for cooking, and a medical area with a "stowable bed" as well as potentially closed curtains, the developers of the residential module emphasize.

NASA notes that astronauts will be able to use this habitat as a lunar base for missions to the dark regions of the Moon's South Pole.

The Artemis mission series is aimed at creating a permanent lunar outpost. According to scientists, the first landing of an American crew on the Moon since 1972 is expected in 2026, while the surface habitat on the Earth's satellite will be built in the 2030s.
