International support for Ukraine may decrease: Bloomberg explains why

The results of the U.S. presidential election may result in weaker international support for Ukraine. Republican Donald Trump has already announced his intention to force Ukraine to reach a settlement in the war with Russia, but even if Democrat Kamala Harris wins, it will be difficult for her to get significant financial support from Congress.

Bloomberg writes about this. "Officials in Kyiv and across Europe are worried that a Donald Trump victory could force Ukraine into a painful settlement that would allow Vladimir Putin to consolidate his influence in the country," the journalists write.

They note that the Ukrainian Defense Forces are heavily dependent on US aid, and some allies have already begun talking about options for ending the war.

"If Trump, who has said he will 'resolve' the conflict before taking office, is elected and follows through on his threats to cut off support, Ukraine's options will be sharply reduced. But even if Kamala Harris wins, it will likely be difficult for the US to get significant financial support through Congress," media sources say.

This may affect Ukraine's funding, but it is not only the United States that provides assistance to the country. Earlier, the leaders of the G7 countries made an official decision to provide Ukraine with a loan totaling about $50 billion. Funds from frozen Russian assets will be used for this purpose. Payments are scheduled to begin by the end of this year.

The loans will be repaid from the proceeds of the frozen Russian assets, which protects Ukraine's domestic resources. The proceeds will help cover Ukraine's social and military needs in 2025.

As OBOZ.UA reported earlier, Ukraine has successfully fulfilled the terms of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program and is ready to receive the fifth tranche of $1.1 billion. The final decision on the allocation of funds will be made on October 18, 2024.
