Zhan Beleniuk successfully started the Olympics in Paris

Zhan Beleniuk, Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion, made a victorious start at the 2024 Games in Paris in Greco-Roman wrestling. In the weight category of up to 87 kilograms, our compatriot won the fight against the Chinese representative Qial Haitao - 7:1.

The fight was not the easiest for the Ukrainian. In the first period, he looked closely at his opponent and even received a warning for passivity, which led to the Chinese earning a point and the referees sending Zhang to the ground.

However, Beleniuk defended himself very confidently and did not allow his opponent to score points. After a one-minute break, the Ukrainian wrestler seized the initiative.

At first, Zhang suppressed Haitao with his activity, forcing him to focus entirely on defense. As a result, the Chinese was sent to the floor, which our compatriot brilliantly used. He made three successful takedowns at once, earning six points.

Having calmly fought his way through the stand-up, Beleniuk brought the fight to a confident victory and advanced to the quarterfinals, where he will face Nursultan Tursinov from Uzbekistan. It should be noted that Parviz Nasibov also started his performance in the 67 kg weight category with a victory, defeating his opponent from Serbia with a score of 3:2.
