Beleniuk fought in the quarterfinals of the Olympic Games

Ukrainian Greco-Roman fighter Zhan Beleniuk has reached the semifinals at the Olympic Games currently taking place in Paris. Our compatriot in the 87 kg weight category broke the resistance of Nursultan Tursinov from Uzbekistan - 7:3, losing 0:3 during the fight.

The fight was not easy for our Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion. Just like in the 1/8 finals, Beleniuk looked closely at his opponent in the first period, which resulted in a warning for passivity. The referee put the Ukrainian on the ground, which the athlete from Uzbekistan managed to take advantage of, scoring two points and taking a three-point lead.

After a half-minute break, our compatriot attacked his opponent. The latter could not withstand the pressure and gave up the fight, also ending up on the floor. Here Jean felt like a fish out of water. He successfully executed three takedowns at once and earned precious six points.

As a result, the 33-year-old from Kyiv celebrated his victory and reached the semifinals. His opponent in the battle for the decisive fight will be Iranian representative Alireza Mohmadipiani.
