Tomato is a versatile product and an ingredient in many delicious dishes, from salads to soups to pizzas. However, we are often disappointed when we cut it open and find that it has softened.

Soft tomatoes are not suitable for cooking, as sometimes it can be a sign that the fruit has gone bad. It turns out that the most common cause of rapid spoilage is improper storage. That's why TikTok user Lottie Dalziel shared some useful tips for storing vegetables that you might not know about in a video.

Since tomatoes are often stored in the refrigerator in the supermarket, you might think that you should do the same at home. But, as the expert notes, this can be the reason for the product's rapid spoilage.

As it turns out, these vegetables are best stored at room temperature for optimal freshness.

This is because tomatoes contain an enzyme that reacts to low temperatures, causing cell membranes to break down. Tomatoes can also extract flavor from other fruits or vegetables that are stored next to them in the refrigerator, resulting in an unpleasant taste.

However, if you have used only half of the tomato and want to keep the rest for later, it is still worth storing it in the refrigerator.
