What holidays are celebrated on October 8
October 8, according to the New Julian calendar, is the day of remembrance of Pelagia of Antioch. Pelagia lived in the third century and was famous for her extraordinary beauty. However, before she converted to Christianity, she led a rather dissolute life. One day, a preacher and bishop named Nonnus came to the Council of Antioch. He saw Pelagia in the street crowd and prayed all night for the salvation of the young girl's soul. The next morning, Pelageya came to the church herself, saying that she had been brought by some unknown force. The girl was very impressed by the service. She asked Bishop Nonna to baptize her. Pelageya gave away all her possessions to the poor and took monastic vows.
