This one kitchen item usually has the biggest amount of bacteria and it's likely you forget about it during cleaning

ObozrevatelNews

February is the peak of cold and flu season, so keeping your home clean is more important than ever.

It's impossible to get rid of germs and bacteria completely as we constantly touch many different objects in the house, and kitchen taps are among the most touched, OBOZ.UA writes.

According to experts, there is one area that you probably forget to clean and which can become a real hotbed of bacteria. It is the aerator.

Most of us don't pay attention to it when we clean the kitchen, but it's one of the places where bacteria and limescale accumulate the most, especially in hard water areas.

An aerator is a nozzle at the outlet of a water faucet, and it builds up limescale that can disrupt water flow and trap bacteria and minerals over time.

To prevent the spread of germs in the water, make it a habit to remove and clean your aerator every couple of months.

Simply use a toothbrush to clean this nozzle along with a solution of lemon juice and water. Keep repeating by applying fresh lemon juice if the limescale persists.

After cleaning, use a disinfectant spray that is safe for metal surfaces. If you use a homemade disinfectant, lemon juice is the best option. Citric acid in lemons is antibacterial and antiseptic, which means that lemons can kill bacteria.
