"There are no eternal wars": Russian Olympic champion accuses Ukrainians of "hatred and enmity"
Two-time Olympic champion Dmitry Vasiliev is outraged by the decision of Ukrainian athletes not to shake hands with Russians at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The former biathlete called this behavior of our compatriots a manifestation of "hatred and enmity."
Vasilyev, who fiercely supports the dictatorial regime of Vladimir Putin, said this in a commentary to the propaganda news agency RIA Novosti. The winner of the Sarajevo '84 and Calgary '88 Games cynically added that "there are no eternal wars" and that Russians should be friends.
"It is sad that the Ukrainian leadership is emphasizing this and, on the contrary, urging its athletes not to welcome Russians. Hatred and enmity have never led to anything good. It's unfortunate that sports are also being artificially and deliberately stressed so that there is enmity in it as well. But I believe that there are no eternal wars. After some time, the parties will agree on something, and people will still live peacefully and be friends. It's sad that this moment is being delayed, but peace is inevitable," Vasilyev said.
Earlier, two-time Olympic champion Olga Zaitseva called Ukrainians stupid for refusing to welcome Russians to the Olympics. Before that, famous figure skating coach Tatyana Tarasova attacked Ukrainians and hypocritically stated that Russian citizens "are not the ones who wanted the war."
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, three-time Olympic champion Elena Vialbe said, "Russia has not declared war on anyone," and spoke nastily about the Olympic truce. In addition, the former skier called the upcoming Games in the French capital "squalor," for which she was instantly punished with caustic comments from fans.
