Ukrainian gymnast Illia Kovtun took fourth place at the 2024 Olympics in artistic gymnastics. The 20-year-old native of Cherkasy scored 14.533 points in the floor exercise.

Our compatriot performed all of his jumps perfectly, but the judges picked on the minimal mistakes he made and reduced his score as much as possible.

It should be added that the Ukrainian's difficulty was 6.2, while the winner of the competition had a score of 6.6.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, a few days ago Kovtun also became the fourth in individual all-around at the 2024 Olympics, scoring 86.165 points in the sum of all performances.

Commenting on his performance, Illia admitted that it was a very difficult final for him, as there are many titled athletes in the competition.

"There were no thoughts when you go out and do a combination, you just go out and do your job. The coach told me to give 100%, to do everything I could, and to let it go because the guys before me did very well and it was very difficult to get even third place. But I did my best and came in fourth," Kovtun said.

Kovtun disagrees with the idea that someone put psychological pressure on him.

"This is sport, you can't just come and say: Give me an Olympic gold medal, everyone trains to their maximum, I did my maximum, and the guys did theirs. Fourth place is also a good result because I showed that I am the best all-around athlete in Europe. After all, the first three positions were taken by Asians. This also shows that I am a good athlete," the gymnast summarized.

Kovtun is a bronze medalist at the World and European Championships in the all-around. He is a medalist of the World Junior Championships, six-time European Junior Champion, medalist of the European Junior Championships, multiple champion, and medalist of the European Youth Olympic Festival.
