Sun Yiwen is a multiple world champion
Two-time world champion and Tokyo 2020 Olympic epee champion Sun Yiwen (FIE #4) from China sensationally lost in the 1/16 finals of the 2024 Olympic Games. The 32-year-old multiple World Cup winner lost to Japan's Yoshimura Miho (FIE #43) 13:14.
In the last seconds, the score was equal when the Japanese fencer delivered a decisive stab. The judges deliberated for 5 minutes but decided to give the victory to Miho. In the 1/8 finals, the Japanese athlete will face Ukrainian Vlada Kharkiv.
It should be noted that another representative of Ukraine, Joan-Fabi Bejura, suffered an insulting defeat in the 1/16 finals, losing to Aurian Mallot-Breton – 13:14.
The Ukrainian was winning with 19 seconds left in the match, but in the end, the three-time European team champion from France celebrated her success.
