Participating countries run away from the "alternative Olympics" in Russia

The BRICS Games, which are being organized by Russia in a pompous manner on the eve of the October BRICS summit, and are scheduled for June 11-24 in Kazan, are losing participants. The BRICS is an intergovernmental organization that includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates.

Russian propagandists have called the BRICS sports games an "alternative Olympics." According to the Russians, these competitions should replace the real Olympics for their athletes, where Russia was not allowed to participate.

As recently as April 4, the Kremlin's mouthpiece proudly reported that the BRICS Games would be attended by representatives of 74 countries, with "more than 4,700 participants."

Within a week, the numbers unexpectedly changed. In an interview with RIA Novosti, Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matitsyn said that "more than 50 countries have confirmed their participation."

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, on March 19, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) allowed Russians who qualified for the Olympic Games in Paris in neutral status under strict conditions.

After that, Russian sports federations began to refuse to travel to France one by one. Last December, the Russian rhythmic gymnastics team refused to participate in international competitions without national symbols.

On April 1, the leaders of the Russian national sailing team refused to participate in the qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games and, accordingly, the Games themselves. Archers will not go to Paris either. Russian rowers are also not going to compete at the 2024 Olympics.
