No longer Black: the sea in Odesa has been "blooming" with toxic bacteria, experts explained the reason. Photo.
As a result of the Russian occupiers' June 6 explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant, the sea on the beaches in Odesa not only throws a huge amount of garbage ashore, but also begins to bloom. The water changed its color and became thick. According to experts, cholera has not been detected in the Black Sea, but positive results for rotavirus A RNA and salmonella DNA have been found.
Local Telegram channels are sharing footage of the coast. On Lanzheron beach, suspended solids were found to be 1.6 times higher than normal, and iron was found to be 2 times higher than normal. The water salinity is 2.6 times lower than normal (to see the photo, scroll to the bottom of the page).
In addition, Halyna Terenko, a researcher at the Ukrainian Scientific Center for Marine Ecology, posted on Facebook that the Gulf of Odesa was overrun by a whole range of potentially toxic cyanobacteria. She emphasized that experts continue to study the bay.
"This time, the massive bunches of Aphanizomenon flos-aquae were accompanied by colonies of Dolichospermum flos-aquae and cynobia Microcystis aeruginosa, at a salinity of 5.1 ppm and a temperature of 19 degrees. By the way, Nodularia spumi is a marine species and prefers higher salinity," Terenko said.
The mayor's office notes that the sanitary situation is under constant control. It is forbidden to swim in the sea, as it can negatively affect health.
Recently, OBOZREVATEL reported that people in Odesa are massively vacationing on the beaches, despite the ban by the authorities. They warned that there was a high mine danger.
