In the US, a giraffe pulled a girl who was trying to feed it into the air
A video of a giraffe grabbing a 2-year-old girl named Paisley Toten and lifting her into the air is circulating online. The animal took the child by the clothes, trying to pull her out of the car.
Paisley was at the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in Glen Rose, Texas, with her parents, 23-year-old Sierra and 24-year-old Jason. The family was feeding the animals while sitting in the back of a pickup truck, The Mirror reports. The girl held out her palm to the giraffe. "We stopped to feed the giraffes and I turned around to look out the back window and saw the giraffe come over and then just grabbed her," Toten's father told reporters.
Park visitors who were driving behind the family watched in horror as the tall creature leaned down and grabbed the child's shirt with its teeth, while her mother screamed for help. "We were behind the red car and saw the giraffe accidentally grab the little girl's shirt along with her food and lift her out of the back," said one of the eyewitnesses.
Paisley's mother also videotaped the incident. In the video, the woman can be heard asking her daughter: "Do you want to feed the giraffe" before the animal reached for the car.
The audience breathed a sigh of relief when they saw the giraffe throw Paisley back into her mother's arms after she screamed. Fortunately, no one was injured. Jason added: "It scared me, but when it was over we realized everyone was safe and sound and we laughed about it. All Paisley wanted afterwards was a toy giraffe and a giraffe t-shirt from the gift shop, so we got those for her and will definitely be back in the future!"
The Fossil Rim Wildlife Center released a statement about the incident to ABC News, which reads: "We were recently made aware of an incident involving one of our giraffes that occurred this past weekend. The safety of our guests and animals is of the utmost importance to us. While an incident like this has never happened before, we are taking immediate steps to make sure it doesn't happen again."
