Will DiCaprio appear in the third season of "Squid Game"? Netflix commented on the rumors
An unexpected rumor has spread among fans of "Squid Game," a popular South Korean Netflix series, that the famous Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio may appear in the third season of the thriller. The star will get a cameo role, but the creators keep it secret.
This was reported by the local edition of Naver. However, official representatives of the streaming service denied the fans' speculations. "We have also heard the story about Leonardo DiCaprio, but it's not true," Netflix said.
Leonardo DiCaprio is a fan of "Squid Game"
Earlier, Lee Jong-jae, the main actor of Squid Game, told how he met the Oscar-winning celebrity at the LACMA Art + Film Gala held at the Los Angeles Museum of Art. This happened shortly after the first season was released in 2021. The actors talked and took a picture together.
Lee Jong-jae, who won the Best Actor award at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards the following year, attracted attention when he answered Leonardo DiCaprio's question "Which American actor would you like to see in season two?" during a red carpet interview.
In a conversation with the director of the cult film Hwang Dong-hyuk, DiCaprio admitted that he was a fan of The Squid Game. It was then that the Korean filmmaker came up with the idea to invite the star to become a part of the series: "Leonardo DiCaprio said that he is a big fan of Squid Game, so maybe if time or opportunity allows, we can ask him to join the games."
Star was offered to join the team
According to Variety, at a press conference organized by Netflix in Seoul, the director was asked if any famous Hollywood actors would star in the second season of Squid Game. Hwang answered: "No." "There will be no famous Hollywood actors in the second season. It's not part of the plan, and if the script changes, it might be in the third season – but in the second season, it's still set in Korea."
Netflix's official response
Meanwhile, Netflix has denied rumors about DiCaprio's participation in "Squid Game 3," Soompi reports. A company spokesperson said: "The rumors are completely false. Reports about Leonardo DiCaprio's participation in the third season of Squid Game are completely unfounded."
- Meanwhile, the third season is scheduled to premiere in 2025. On January 1, Netflix announced that "Squid Game 2" garnered a record 68 million views in its first week of release, making it the most popular movie in Netflix's history.
Along with this announcement, Netflix also unveiled a special teaser poster for the third season. The poster features the iconic Young-hee, the unforgettable doll from Red Light, Green Light, and a new character, the robot Cheol-soo, who made a surprise appearance in the post-credits scene of the season two finale.
