How to store carrots to keep them from wilting: a proven method

ObozrevatelNews

Carrots are often stored in the bottom of the refrigerator in the fruit and vegetable drawer, but there is actually a better way to keep them fresh for much longer.

Storing carrots can be tricky because they naturally lose moisture over time, especially when they are in a dry container. To prevent this from happening, you can use an old proven method - storing carrots in a jar, OBOZ.UA writes.

This method will help keep them moisturized and also protect them from the cold, dry air in the refrigerator, which often causes carrots to spoil.

Storing carrots in a jar will also protect them from ethylene gas, a natural plant hormone released by certain foods that can cause vegetables to spoil prematurely.

How to store carrots in a jar

First, rinse the carrots under cold water and peel them. Then use a sharp knife to cut them into smaller pieces so that they fit into a jar with a lid or an airtight container.

Pour water over the carrots, cover and store on the middle shelf of the refrigerator.

Try to change the jar of water every two to three days, but if you forget, smell it to see if it has spoiled.
