But in 1656, a plague epidemic broke out here, forcing part of the population to evacuate. And after mass migration to North America, there were practically no residents left.

It is located in the Vyshgorod district of Kyiv region. The city was built in 1970 on the banks of the river of the same name. In 1986, an environmental and humanitarian disaster occurred here. It was the explosion of the fourth power unit of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant, which made the area uninhabitable. The radioactive cloud spread to a large part of Europe and the United States of America.

Today, the radiation level has decreased. Travelers often come here. Some travel agencies also organize one- or two-day tours. Daredevils will be able to visit the villages of Cherevach and Zalissia, visit a kindergarten. They will also be able to see the Energetik Palace of Culture, the Polissia Hotel, and the Ferris wheel.

Oradour-sur-Glane, France

It is located in the New Aquitaine region. In 1936, more than 1,500 people lived here. The village witnessed one of the most brutal crimes of the Nazis. In 1944, the German military burned women and children in the church, and shot the men in a barn. Only 30 people survived.

Today, only the ruins of residential buildings can be seen here.

Varosha, Cyprus

A neighborhood in the city of Famagusta. It was once considered a popular tourist destination. New modern hotels, bars, nightclubs, and restaurants were built here. Actors from different countries came here to rest. Among them were Elizabeth Rosemond Taylor, Richard Burton, and Brigitte Anne-Marie Bardot. However, in 1974, the Turkish army invaded the resort. Turkey began to control the resort, so people were evacuated. For several years, people were not allowed to come here. However, despite a ban by the United Nations Security Council, the location was opened to civilians. From October 2020 to January 1, 2022, more than 400 thousand people visited it. During this period, they managed to equip the beach, install sun loungers and umbrellas.

Kennicott, United States of America

A town in the state of Alaska. In the early 20th century, copper deposits were discovered here. Hundreds of people came here to work in the mines. Between 1909 and 1938, more than 4 million tons of copper ore were mined here. Over time, the deposits became empty. This led to the gradual closure of the mine and the decline of the entire residential area.

Kayaköy, Turkey

A village in the southwest of the country. Before the First World War, ethnic Greeks lived here. After the armed conflict from 1919 to 1922, residents fled their homes. Later, it was planned to settle Muslims here. But they refused the offer because they were afraid to see the ghosts of the dead. Today, the historical corner has become an open-air museum. Now there are only ruins here.

Plymouth, United Kingdom

The city is located on the overseas territory of Montserrat. In 1995, the Soufrière Hills volcano erupted here, causing lava to flow and ash to cover houses. The authorities evacuated more than 4,000 residents.

Later, people returned, but not for long. The fiery mountain made another dangerous eruption, killing 19 people. The hot streams almost reached the airport and paralyzed transportation. The southern part of the village was closed to the public.
