The American company Boom Technology has been testing the supersonic jet Son of Concorde for a while. Officially known as the XB-1, it has already set a new speed record.

The purpose of the jet is to restore high-speed flights around the world. Thus, with this aircraft, a flight from London to New York will take 3.5 hours. The company plans to make the first flight in 2025, TheSun reports.

The American company Boom Technology is making progress with test flights to Mach 1, the speed of sound. During the ninth test flight, a new top speed of Mach 0.87, equivalent to 1,073 kilometers per hour, was achieved. The XB-1 also reached a new altitude record (8,447 meters), experts say.

Boom Technology says it has also continued a series of tests in cooperation with the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) and the Air Force Operational Energy.

Chief test pilot Tristan "Geppetto" Brandenburg, who has been flying the jet for the past year, said it would be much cheaper than its predecessor, the Concorde, which failed because of tariffs.

"The flights were so expensive that the average person just couldn't afford to take those," the pilot explained.

However, the Son of Concorde will be more affordable and faster, experts say. After several test flights, the company plans its first real flight in 2025.
