"Putin will continue to move forward": President of Finland points out threats to Europe and names three steps to peace in Ukraine
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin will not stop at Ukraine if he gets what he wants. At the same time, Ukraine will need to accept peace with the aggressor country, but the agreement must be based on independence.
This opinion was expressed by President of Finland Alexander Stubb during the Support Ukraine plenary session. He emphasized that this war was about the survival of the Ukrainian nation.
"You can't trust Putin, you can't agree with him, because it would mean an agreement with China. The only way Ukraine can win this war is by continuing to support it, as we did in the beginning," Stubb said.
According to him, many people do not realize that the war has been going on since 2014. In particular, the leader of Finland voiced a draft vision of the peace process, in his opinion, "there should be something concrete in the proposals that are on the table."
Stubb proposed three phases to resolve the war.
"The first step is stopping the fire. This is the phase where we put maximum effort and pressure on Russia, including sanctions, the use of frozen assets, and continuing until there is a ceasefire. The second phase is the ceasefire phase. And here we need to take into account the demarcation line and monitor various processes. But we must take into account that there will be negotiations on the peace process," he emphasized.
The President of Finland added that after two phases, we can talk about reconstruction and the lifting of sanctions.
"Given all this, I think we need to make it clear to the Russians and everyone else that there are several aspects that are not being discussed in these negotiations. First of all, it is membership in the European Union. It is not Russia, but Europe that decides on this issue. NATO – the Alliance decides who is a member of NATO. Defense of Ukraine – it is not Russia that decides what Ukraine will have on its borders. And the last thing is an agreement on the security order of Europe," Stubb summarized.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, on February 24, during his speech at the Support Ukraine summit, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that the Ukrainian state should win peace with the help of its strength and unity. The Ukrainian leader also thanked the people of Ukraine for their resilience.
