From Austrian Kaiserschmarrn to Ukrainian nalysnyky: how pancakes are prepared around the world
Pancakes are a symbol of the Shrovetide holiday and can be made with any fillings and different bases. To make the pancakes thin and make sure they won't fall apart, cooks advise adding boiling water and vegetable oil to the batter.
A chef shared how pancakes are cooked in different countries around the world on Instagram.
Ukraine
Nalysnyky (stuffed pancakes)
This is a traditional Ukrainian dish both children and adults love. The pancake batter should be moderately liquid and homogeneous. There are a lot of recipes for stuffed pancakes. When serving, the filling is put inside and the pancake is wrapped in a roll.
France
Crêpes (thin pancakes)
These are the same Crêpes Suzette pancakes with orange or tangeine liqueur and sugar. Crêpes are very similar to ordinary pancakes, but they have no holes.
USA
Pancakes
An American version. Fluffy and taste like a biscuit. Unlike traditional pancakes, they are cooked in a completely dry frying pan, so they are not greasy.
Austria
Kaiserschmarrn (torn pancakes)
This dessert is cooked not in thin flat circles, but in one large and fluffy cake. Then it is cut into many small pieces and caramelized.
Italy
Crespelle (Italian crepes)
Thin, savory Italian pancakes cooked with cream. Served as a main course. The filling can be different: vegetables, meat, cheese, fish or seafood.
Morocco
Msemen (square pancakes)
Thin, buttery pancakes made from semolina and yeast. They differ from the usual pancakes in taste and aroma, as well as in the type and method of preparation - frying or baking. This dish combines the classic recipes and turns out to be very tasty.
