Even Jack Russell? Dog experts have named seemingly innocent small breeds you better watch out for
When it comes to deadly dogs, XL Bullies, Pit bull terriers, or Japanese Tosas come to mind. But in fact, it's not just the ones that look intimidating that can be dangerous.
"The most dangerous dog is the one that hasn't been trained properly," says dog expert Will Atherton, and he's absolutely right. The breeds of dogs that look innocent but have been involved in the most fatal incidents over the past 35 years are named, MailOnline reports.
There are well-known dog breeds that are considered dangerous and in some countries even banned for breeding. However, after analyzing the incidents where people died due to dog attacks, scientists found that of the 62 dogs involved, the majority (53) are those that were not on the list of banned ones. Moreover, cases with children are most often associated with small breeds of dogs. These include the English Springer Spaniel, Lakeland Terrier, and Jack Russell.
"Aggressive behaviour can be influenced by factors such as how they're bred, reared and experiences throughout their life," the study explains.
Dog handlers explain that the structure of the pit bull terrier's jaw skeleton is no different from that of any other dog in terms of jaw closure - they just have strong muscular jaws, similar to many other breeds.
