Energize and strengthen the immune system: how to make the famous ginger shot
Ginger shots have become a popular addition to morning routines because of their potential health benefits. This invigorating concoction usually combines fresh ginger root with lemons and a sweet ingredient such as apple juice or maple syrup. But beyond their savory flavor, ginger shots are known for their positive effects on the immune system.
Margot, a certified holistic health coach, shared an easy recipe on her blog that can be prepared in minutes.
Ingredients:
- One ginger root (with several branches)
- Two lemons
- One lime
- One tablespoon of maple syrup
- A pinch of cayenne pepper
- Water (preferably filtered).
Method of preparation:
1. Start by peeling the ginger root as well as the lemon and lime, then add all the ingredients to a blender. You can use a juicer for this, but a blender is much easier to clean.
2. Fill the contents of the blender with water and then blend at full speed for about 30 seconds.
3. Take a sieve and place it in a large container, then gently pour the mixed ginger mixture through the sieve. It may be easier to do this in batches, depending on the size of your jar and sieve.
4. Using a teaspoon, stir in the liquid and fiber remaining in the sieve and allow the juice to strain through the sieve.
5. You can save the dry ginger and citrus fiber for another recipe or toss it into the compost.
6. Continue straining the liquid until it is all out of the blender, and then pour the liquid from the pitcher into a glass container, ideally a sterilized bottle. You can do this by boiling the bottle in water for 10 minutes, or by using the hot cycle in your dishwasher.
7. Store ginger juice in the refrigerator for up to five days.
