The veteran Hubble Space Telescope has transmitted a photo of a galaxy with jumpers. It is located about 57 million light years from Earth.

According to NASA, the new photo was taken back in May, but it was shown to the public only now. The photo of the distant galaxy was captured by the Hubble Space Telescope as part of a wide galactic survey, Space.com reports.

The 34-year-old Hubble telescope uses different filters for its observations, each of which allows light waves of a specific length to reach the telescope's instruments.

Recently, Hubble was put into a protective "safe mode" to preserve its two remaining working gyroscopes, which allow it to target various space objects. With four of the six gyros out of service, the retired telescope will now operate with one gyro, leaving its other functioning gyro for future use.

Scientists say that this transition should help extend the telescope's lifespan and ensure that it continues to produce stunning images of the cosmos for many years to come.

The Hubble Telescope, which was launched into space in April 1990 aboard the space shuttle Discovery, orbits at an altitude of approximately 547 kilometers above the Earth. Its average speed is 27 thousand kilometers per hour.

Over its 34 years, Hubble has provided tens of terabytes of data and images. It has provided key insights into the Universe, from objects close to the Moon to the most distant galaxies.

One of the most famous photographs of the telescope is the iconic view of the Pillars of Creation, which are located at a distance of about 7 thousand light years from Earth in the direction of the constellation Serpentus.
