Meta, the company that owns Facebook and Instagram, has introduced a new video editing app called Edits. This move is a direct response to the popularity of the Chinese app CapCut and the ban of TikTok in some countries.

The announcement came just a few hours after the temporary ban of TikTok (and its subsidiary CapCut) in the United States. The network shared details about the app.

Meta responds quickly to changes in global trends and introduces new solutions. The tech giant announced the launch of Edits, a mobile video editing tool.

Adam Mosseri, Instagram's CEO, announced Edits in Threads, calling it an app for "anyone who loves creating videos directly on their phone."

"There are a lot of changes happening right now, but despite the circumstances, we're committed to providing the best tools for creators," Mosseri commented, apparently referring to the situation with the temporary ban of TikTok and CapCut.

So, Edits offers the following features:

  • editing tools: trimming, merging videos, adding effects, music, and text;
  • templates and effects: the app has a large library of ready-made templates and effects for quick video creation;
  • tools for organizing and tracking ideas;
  • an improved camera for video recording;
  • the ability to share drafts with friends and other users;
  • integration with other Meta services: the ability to easily share finished videos on Instagram, Facebook, and other social networks.

So far, there is little information about the new platform, but Meta promises to release new details in the near future. The app is currently undergoing testing.

Edits is already available for pre-order in the App Store, and its launch on iOS is scheduled for February. The Android version will be available later.

The new app aims to provide users with more tools to create high-quality video content right on their smartphones. Edits promises to become a worthy competitor to the popular CapCut, offering users new opportunities for content creation.

Earlier, OBOZ.UA published a study according to which excessive viewing of short videos, such as those published on TikTok, Reels (Meta), and Shorts (YouTube), is addictive. In addition, addiction to such content can negatively affect cognitive functions and mental health.
