"20 Days in Mariupol" is nominated in two categories at the BAFTA-2024 film awards

The Ukrainian war film 20 Days in Mariupol directed by Mstyslav Chernov has been shortlisted for the BAFTA-2024, the British equivalent of the Oscars. The film was nominated in two categories: Foreign Language Film and Documentary.

Out of 60 selected films by the longlisted actor, only 38 were nominated. This became known from the award website. On January 19, the final third round of voting will take place to determine the winners, who will be chosen on February 18.

Of the 10 films in the foreign language category, 5 remain:

  1. 20 Days in Mariupol by Mstyslav Chernov (Ukraine);
  2. Anatomy of a Fall by Justine Triet (France);
  3. Past Lives by Selina Sohn (USA);
  4. Society of the Snow by Juan Antonio Bayona (Spain);
  5. The Zone of Interest by Jonathan Glazer (USA, UK).

20 Days in Mariupol

This film is about the first weeks of the struggle for the Ukrainian city of Mariupol, now occupied by the Donetsk region, after the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion. The film is about journalists who tried to document all the crimes of the aggressor country until the last moment.

20 Days in Mariupol was highly praised by film critics and has an 8.6 rating on IMDb. The film was even shortlisted for two prestigious Oscars.
