Temperature swings affect health

Temperature swings can negatively affect our health.

This nuance was pointed out by national weather forecaster Natalia Didenko. On the meteoprog portal, she shared tips on how to dress and even eat during such weather conditions.

"Experts in medicine and meteorology believe that sharp temperature swings and a quick transition from warmer weather to frost provoke a high probability of hypothermia," the expert said.

She emphasized that cold air negatively affects small blood vessels, especially in the extremities. Then the vessels simply instinctively constrict to keep warm, and as a result, blood circulation in the limbs slows down.

It is important to dress warmly during frost

"Fingers and toes, as well as ears and nose, are the first to freeze. They are the least protected because they have a thin layer of fat. The skin freezes, and then the subcutaneous layer, blood vessels, muscles, nerves, and even bones freeze too," Didenko said.

At the same time, she added that hypothermia is possible even in a thaw. Therefore, a person should take into account all weather conditions and dress appropriately to protect their health. They should also eat properly, enriching the body with vitamins.

How to dress in cold weather:

  • Wear a hat. The human body loses up to 40% of its heat through the head.
  • Wear a scarf, warm socks, mittens, and shoes with thicker and more comfortable soles.
  • Protect exposed parts of the body, especially hands, from frost.
  • Make sure that clothes and shoes are not too tight too.
  • Remove piercings and metal jewelry that attracts cold.
Eat foods rich in vitamins in frosty weather

How to eat during frosty weather:

  • Eat foods rich in vitamins, especially citrus fruits: lemons, tangerines, oranges, etc.
  • An important role in the diet should be given to fats, without which the immune system weakens.
  • In winter, it is recommended to drink herbal, ginger or lemon tea, fruit and vegetable fresh juices, lingonberry, cranberry and other fruit drinks;
  • Eat hot food. In particular, try to eat more soups.
